C A L L M E crazy, but I just created a Lake Burton Pinterest Board creatively entitled "Lake Burton". I know, I may be a little obsessed, but who can really help it? Most people who spent their childhoods on the mesmerizing mountain valley lake have similar obsession issues.. so I'm with good company.
As I sit here at my desk, staring out my window of the bleak, chilly, rainy weather that hasn't changed at all the past week, I couldn't help but allow my mind to wander to my favorite place in the world. Not Provence, France or Ariccia, Italy, but little ole' Lake Burton in the North Georgia Mountains. If you've been there, you know why!
Andrew and I both grew up on the Lake. Our summers consisted of sunset boat cruises and dock jumping... Sometimes even together! You see, my Mom went to high school with Andrew's parents. That's a whole nother story about God's providence that I will save for a later time. But because of this small connection, Andrew and his family would visit us at the lake almost every summer to jump off the boat house and to eat homemade peach ice cream. But we never became friends. We were too young.
Naturally, the summer we started dating, one of the first places we hung out was Lake Burton! It was the week before I flew off to New York for the summer and I'm pretty sure he fell in love instantly! ;)
Since then, our summers consisted of multiple visits to the lake. We manipulated our family vacations so we could be there at the same time. Andrew would pick me up in the boat and we would ride around until it got dark and he had to take me home. Those were the days!
Now, we stay in the same house, in the same room. Weird! We still try to plan our trips around our families so we can spend time with them while we are there. The lake is always better with family. And it's still a magical place!
P.S. Did you see my insta pic of yesterday's infused water? It turned out so pretty!! My new Spring/Summer go-to for a little pretty pick-me-up. The tulips don't hurt either.
