H I F R I E N D S ! ! ! Today is the first of many posts in this new category, SO INSPIRED BY, where I will tell you all about the artists, entrepreneurs, places, things, and just plain ole' awesome people who inspire me. I've wanted to create this blog category for a while now but honestly (until today) didn't have the guts to be so transparent. I know that sounds kinda silly **transparent about the things the inspire her? why is that so personal??** Those who know me personally know that I'm one of the most transparent people in the world- I'll talk your ear off about ANYTHING! But being transparent on a personal level is a whole lot different than being transparent online- where people can screenshot your deepest emotions and share them with their entire Facebook community with the simple click of a button. Honestly, I've been very sensitive about my identity as an artist-- constantly stumped by simple questions like: Who am I? What's my style? What do I do? What is Love, Mary Hester? This insecurity causes within me a fear of "giving away" my secrets, desires, insecurities, hopes, and fears and creates these questions in my ever-wandering imagination: What if someone attempts the same things and does them better? What if someone takes my desires and my inspiration and makes them their own? THEIR MINE!!! How silly?! These are the most irrational fears ever. Am i right?!?
But I'm ready to be over that! It's time to share. Even though I don't really know where I'm going or who I am as an artists, I trust God to lead me there one day. I know I'll get there... I just don't know the exact route or destination. So get ready to see a little side of me that I haven't show before- my dreams in raw form- the people I aspire to resemble in my everyday life, the art I hope to reflect in my own work, and the things that really give me that longing deep down inside to become something greater- the things I'm SO INSPIRED BY.
Teil Duncan is a southern artist... a southern GIRL POWER artist as I like to call her! She's just doing her thing, following her passions. Teil, like Britt Bass (who I highlighted in a previous post), sells her artwork on her own website and deals directly with her customers. I love that! For the record, I have nothing at all against art galleries. I love their mission to find the best of the best artists and display their work in one beautiful brick and mortar location- It's one of the best ways to discover new talent and to promote a respect for artists and their work. But, like all things in life, there should be a balance. Teil, Britt, and many others have discovered this balance via online shops and I say more power to them!
Teil is known for her impressionist style beach scenes painted on large canvases with bright and cheerful acrylic colors. She also paints beautiful figure studies, farm animals, and does commission work and I've seen on Teil's instagram that she sometimes paints a scene at wedding receptions! How cool is that?!?
Not only is Teil an amazing artist, she's a Georgia girl (from Columbus, GA) and she studied art at Auburn!... so of course that deserves a special place in my heart. Maybe one day I'll be fortunate enough to own one of her original pieces but until then, I'll enjoy admiring her work from afar. Don't the colors and movement in her paintings just make you want to dance?
